My name is Óscar Estoa Piernas. I am a chemical engineer, social media manager, freelancer, and entrepreneur in the cleantech industry. I am a TEFL-accredited English teacher with five years of teaching experience in public schools and language centers in Vietnam as well as freelance online teaching. I taught a wide range of audiences from toddlers to adults both offline and online. I can confidently say that I can teach both English and Spanish.
I taught English in Vietnam after working as a production coordinator in a polyamide and PVC extrusion factory. I fell in love with the job; playing with children, teaching teenagers about historical or technological topics, listening to them play devil's advocate, and expressing themselves in a welcoming, accepting, and comforting environment makes me feel really good.
I can confidently explain any complex topic to a wide range of audiences while making sure that they stay focused. I like to get to know my students as much as possible because as we can all imagine, it is much more fun to roleplay as Doraemon or Pikachu than Sally from exercise 2. Using balls and mini boards to review vocabulary was very convenient as I think that total physical response is crucial, especially at the early stages. I think education should be seen more as edutainment, that's why I try to play as many games as possible, as that would assist with the learning process. There's nothing better to warm up than a nice board race or a mimic game.
I have a deep passion for learning and personal growth, and I am knowledgeable about the different types of personalities. I am an ENTP-A myself and I tend to lean more towards Thomas Erikson’s four types of human behavior when I have to deal with class management as it is a lot easier to understand people this way, it is a broader and less specific classification; but useful when you have to deal with different kinds of students. Researching these topics made me aware of my strengths and weaknesses, life is a never-ending lesson, and I am pleased to see how being aware of something helps you improve, in my case I am proud to say that I went from low attention to detail on my teens to strive for poka-yoke nowadays.
Would you be against having an online meeting so we can meet each other for the first time? I would be delighted to find a win-win situation between both of us so I can prepare all the necessary paperwork regarding residence and work permits. As a Spanish native and thus a European passport holder is going to be very easy for me to do.
